We are seeking experienced music instructors with four or more years of experience capable of teaching Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keys, and Vocals up to an ADVANCED level.

School of Rock, established in 1998 in Philadelphia, is the pioneering performance-based and interactive music school. The part-time Instructor at School of Rock guides students through a wide musical repertoire. This role involves fostering a secure and engaging atmosphere where students can reach their musical and creative aspirations, guaranteeing an outstanding educational journey for every participant.

To support this mission, the part-time Instructor oversees all musical and instructional components of the lessons. They design energetic and compelling lesson plans to ensure students remain both challenged and motivated. The Instructor positively embodies the spirit of rock and roll and is tasked with delivering a meaningful and productive lesson experience for each student.

Our core instructional areas at School of Rock are keys, vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. We value and utilize the broader musical talents of our instructors whenever possible. Preference in hiring is given to multi-instrumentalists. Applicants should specify which instruments they can teach and the highest proficiency level they can instruct (beginner, intermediate, or advanced).

Music Instruction Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the highest quality of instruction in both private lessons and live performances.
  • Focus on teaching students the fundamentals of music, beyond just song replication.
  • Develop and maintain detailed lesson plans.
  • Incorporate the proprietary School of Rock Method Books and App into teaching.

Customer Connection Responsibilities:

  • Provide regular updates to parents regarding student progress following lessons.
  • Maintain visibility and accessibility within the school to interact with parents and students.
  • Assist with program operations during canceled lessons.
  • Support rehearsals and perform basic school maintenance tasks.
  • Adhere to the School of Rock Code of Conduct, safety policies, and the Monitoring and Supervision policy.

Skill Requirements:

  • A minimum of four years of experience in professional music teaching and/or performance.
  • For Vocalists: A primary focus on Vocal Health with deep expertise in technique, including hard rock, metal, and grunge styles.
  • Understanding of music theory and curriculum development.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for working with a diverse age range from 3 years old to adult.
  • Strong organizational capabilities.
  • Exceptional customer service and relations skills.
  • Resourcefulness and effective problem-solving ability.
  • Capacity to perform well under pressure.
  • The ideal candidate is an active musician with formal music education training.
  • An enthusiastic, adaptable, patient, and positive attitude.
  • Must exercise sound judgment.
  • A genuine passion for teaching.

Compensation Range: Starting pay is between $21 and $26 per hour, based on experience. This is complemented by bonus opportunities, employee discounts on gear from brands like Fender, Gibson, and Gretsch, and a 401(k) plan.
