Cal Ocean Enterprises is hiring a full-time Stand-up Reach Forklift Operator for our facility in Vernon, California. This position is vital for managing inventory, receiving shipments, storing goods, and preparing orders within our freezer warehouse operations. We seek a reliable, safety-focused individual who handles products carefully and can adhere to schedules to fulfill work orders efficiently. This role reports to the Warehouse Supervisor.

This is a full-time position offering overtime opportunities and bonus potential.

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven experience operating a stand-up reach forklift within a freezer racking environment is mandatory.
  • Possession of a Forklift Certification and an OSHA Forklift License is advantageous.
  • A valid California driver\'s license with a clear record is required.
  • Must be capable of working in a physically demanding, subzero temperature setting.
  • Ability to work autonomously with limited oversight.
  • Candidate must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in both English and Spanish is necessary.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Safety First: Safe operation is the top priority. Operators must comprehend and adhere to all company policies regarding food safety, general safety, and security.

  2. Inbound Product Handling:

    • Inspect incoming trailers for cleanliness before unloading. Ensure wheel chocks are properly positioned as necessary.
    • Only unload trucks after verifying all inbound shipping requirements are met. Receive and inspect all products according to company guidelines and specifications.
    • Report any findings to the Warehouse Supervisor and Manager. Complete all necessary Quality Assurance paperwork upon product receipt.
    • Accurately record warehouse data using a provided tablet device.
    • Ensure all received product is correctly labeled with company coding.

  3. Outbound Quality Inspections:

    • Operators will be trained to conduct quality checks. Inspect all outbound products for quality per company standards, including packaging integrity, labeling accuracy, appearance, and overall condition.
    • Complete required QA documentation and notify the Supervisor to review and confirm any defect summaries.
    • Communicate inspection results to the Warehouse Supervisor.

  4. Outbound Shipping:

    • Select products and build pallets to meet customer specifications using provided pick lists; stage items for loading, which includes stretch-wrapping, labeling, and checking pallet condition. Perform final quality checks.
    • Double-check orders for correct lot identification, quantity, and labeling. Assist prep room personnel as required.

  5. Facility Maintenance:

    • Maintain food-grade cleanliness in warehouse coolers, loading docks, and staging areas.
    • Promptly clean up any spills, standing water, pallet debris, or other foreign objects from the floor.
    • Clean and sanitize equipment following established company food safety protocols.

  6. Inventory Management:

    • Maintain precise counts and correct product identification for both incoming and outgoing goods.
    • Correctly place and locate products within designated rack areas. Perform cycle counts and recounts as directed and submit necessary corrections.

  7. Team Collaboration:

    • Assist other team members when needed, whether with tasks requiring two people, by providing instructional guidance, or by helping locate products.
    • Support the supervisor and the broader team in achieving departmental goals related to customer service, accuracy, and productivity.
