Role Summary
We are seeking enthusiastic, safety-focused, and dependable Surf Instructors to become part of our expanding team. In this role, you will engage directly with guests of diverse ages and abilities, instructing them on ocean safety, surfing methods, and fostering their self-assurance in the water.
Compensation: $23–$28 per hour, plus gratuities and performance incentives (depending on experience).
Primary Duties
- Deliver beginner and intermediate surf instruction for both private and group sessions, adhering to the established Fun Surf LA teaching approach.
- Offer outstanding customer service, ensuring every participant feels secure, encouraged, and enthusiastic.
- Handle the preparation and takedown of surfing equipment, including boards, wetsuits, and shade structures.
- Observe sea conditions and make judgments prioritizing safety.
- Keep equipment in good condition and report any damage or loss.
- Uphold a professional image for the company on the beach and in all guest communications.
Desired Skills and Attributes
- Proficient swimming and surfing capabilities across a range of ocean environments.
- At least three years of personal surfing experience.
- A minimum of one year of professional experience teaching surfing.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification, or commitment to acquire it within 30 days.
- Optimistic outlook, patience, and effective interpersonal communication.
- Physical capacity to lift items weighing up to 40 pounds and to work outside for long durations.
- Dependable, punctual, and professional in both conduct and appearance.
- Lifeguard, ISA, or comparable certifications are highly advantageous; qualified instructors with these credentials will receive additional compensation.
