A Journeyman Carpenter is a qualified tradesperson tasked with executing complex carpentry tasks across commercial, residential, and industrial building sites. This position demands extensive technical expertise, proficiency in interpreting architectural drawings, and superior skill to produce work that adheres to regulatory codes and project specifications.
Primary Duties
- Execute both structural and finish carpentry work, such as framing, constructing forms, installing backing and blocking, applying trim, and fitting doors, windows, and associated hardware.
- Comprehend and follow construction blueprints, technical specifications, and detailed shop drawings.
- Accurately measure, cut, and fit building materials.
- Build and erect structural components including walls, floor systems, ceilings, and roofing assemblies.
- Install finished elements like cabinets, shelves, and custom built-in units.
- Support site layout, leveling, and preparatory work.
- Adhere to all safety regulations set by OSHA and company policy.
- Coordinate with other trade professionals to ensure project continuity and avoid interruptions.
- Keep all tools, machinery, and materials in a clean and functional state.
- Provide instruction and oversight to apprentice carpenters when required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of four years of hands-on carpentry experience.
- Competence in at least three construction specialties (examples include carpentry, drywall, framing, concrete, door/window installation, basic electrical, or basic plumbing).
- Thorough understanding of applicable building codes and installation best practices.
- Capability to read plans and perform precise measurements.
- Must supply personal power tools, hand tools, and standard carpentry gear.
- Dependable transportation and willingness to travel to different work locations.
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification is preferred.
- Exceptional focus on detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
