Hinish Design Collective operates as an innovative landscape design and construction studio headquartered in Hollywood, specializing in projects that feature comprehensive, custom-built infrastructure. Our studio is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and well-informed individual to oversee projects with budgets ranging from $75,000 to $1 million. The perfect candidate will possess direct, hands-on construction experience across multiple trades—such as masonry, landscaping, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and steel fabrication—along with management experience in construction, service, or customer-service sectors. We are NOT interested in candidates with inflated egos. Our worksites are cooperative and productive environments where every team member’s contribution is valued.
This position begins as an apprenticeship. During the initial year, the project manager will work directly alongside the principal, assisting in all facets of project and business management to develop a thorough understanding of our methods and standards. Compensation for the first year is $5,500 per month, plus paid time off and mileage reimbursement. After the first year, the monthly pay will rise to $7,500, and will include benefits, paid time off, and project-based bonuses.
Requirements
- Five to ten years of direct, hands-on construction experience across various disciplines
- Outstanding communication skills. This role involves continuous communication between the studio principal, subcontractors, and suppliers
- A design-oriented eye. Capable of making informed decisions about details and interpreting both 3D renderings and 2D plan drawings
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to surpassing expectations
- A client-focused ethic. Our goal is to execute every project at the highest possible level, within budget, while minimizing stress for the client. The client’s interests must guide every decision
- Must possess strong time-management skills. Ability to maintain daily progress and plan effectively for future scheduling
- Ability to foresee potential errors before they happen
- Experience managing teams in a fast-paced setting
- Availability to be on call between 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Must remain flexible as project demands frequently change, requiring an adaptable schedule
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
- Ability to travel to multiple job sites daily. A valid driver’s license is required
- Ability to lift items weighing over 50 pounds
- Must pass a background check and a drug screening
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily site visits at job locations throughout Los Angeles
- Facilitate communication between the Principal and subcontractors
- Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs for upcoming projects during the bidding phase
- Obtain material and labor quotes for forthcoming projects
- Manage material orders and scheduling
- Track expenses related to materials and labor
- Conduct detailed evaluations of constructed elements. Determine design details on site
- Maintain construction schedules. Coordinate with subcontractors and principals to keep projects advancing efficiently and effectively
- Uphold design integrity. Evaluate contractor needs and propose solutions that preserve the overall design intent
- Establish elevations in the field
- Layout and mark designs on site
- Make rapid decisions and adjust direction quickly when needed
- Supervise a team of 10 or more individuals while managing 3 to 5 projects of different scales simultaneously
