Screenwriter of Thrillers/Dramas Dark Comedy / Police Procedurals
About This Service
Hello,
I am Tim Tolka, a writer, editor, and journalist with a focus on true crime and detective narratives. My work often explores scenarios where unconventional investigators face repercussions for pursuing justice. I am a collaborative partner and am comfortable joining a project at any stage of its development. In 2018, I released \"Blue Mafia,\" a 300-page biography chronicling a civil rights attorney whose efforts prompted two federal inquiries into police departments in Ohio. This project represented eight years of dedicated research, writing, and revision.
That experience inspired my transition into screenwriting. I have since co-authored multiple screenplays and manuscripts based on true crime, frequently developing intricate plots and characters from brief outlines or treatments. My editorial work includes novels and memoirs, where I have captured the voices of diverse individuals such as a police officer, a soldier, a surgeon, an emerald trader, several individuals involved in the drug trade, and a daredevil. I also undertake private investigation work for private clients and organizations.
For the last six years, alongside my ongoing true crime projects, I have offered script coverage and narrative consulting services to screenwriters, directors, and producers. I am accustomed to functioning within a creative team structure, collaborating with supervisors and co-writers while also managing and mentoring assistant writers. My portfolio includes 5 television scripts spanning thriller, paranormal true crime, period Western, and biopic genres; 6 feature film scripts in crime drama, police procedural, paranormal true crime, and biopic categories; and 7 manuscripts covering paranormal true crime, biography, memoir, and thriller/spy fiction. I have also authored two short scripts for video game companies with a true crime theme, including AlquimiSoft and Parallel World.
My lifelong fascination with true crime, police procedurals, and mysteries led to my initial professional work in the genre. I began by writing about organized crime figures and serial killers for the YouTube channel LegalEagle and ghostwriting a memoir detailing a series of murders in Virginia.
Beyond screenwriting, I have continued to author memoirs and novels, meticulously adopting the perspectives of a soldier, police officer, drug dealer, daredevil, survivor of sexual assault, and surgeon. Every project demands thorough research, synthesis of information, careful review of client notes, and precise editing.
I am prepared and eager to take on any challenge you present.
Thank you for your consideration,
Tim
