ABOUT ME
EXPERIENCED SPANISH TEACHER: I possess twenty-five years of experience instructing Spanish. I have guided students from beginner to advanced proficiency levels. Over these many years of teaching, I have developed an intuitive understanding of language acquisition. My students have included high school and college students aiming to excel in their Spanish courses, professionals seeking to conduct business in Spanish-speaking nations, and individuals learning for personal reasons.
Native Speaker: I did not speak English until I was eighteen years old. As a native Spanish speaker, I have been reading novels from Latin America and Spain since my middle school years. I was raised around Spanish nuns who placed great emphasis on linguistic precision. I tested out of college language requirements by passing an advanced Spanish exam and began teaching Spanish after graduation.
Advanced English and Spanish Skills: My deep understanding of both English and Spanish allows me to explain complex Spanish concepts and phrases in English, which accelerates the learning process. I will also help you comprehend the differences between Spanish and English to avoid confusion with challenging grammar rules and sentence structure.
Education: After a lifetime of speaking only Spanish, I attended Ohio State University and earned a degree in Journalism and Advertising. Subsequently, I obtained a Master’s degree in Telecommunications Arts from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I graduated with honors from both programs and was awarded a full fellowship for my master’s studies. Since then, I have worked in the arts for many years while consistently teaching students on the side. My arts background includes owning a venue for several years that hosted music performances, comedy events, and theatrical plays.
California (CSET) Test: I took the Spanish subject examinations required to teach in California (CSET) and achieved top scores in all categories: linguistics, reading comprehension, culture, grammar, literature, and spoken and written expression. You can be confident in my superior language skills. My English skills are also robust due to my educational background.
I Know Grammar Rules by Heart: With over two decades of teaching and tutoring high school and college students, I can effectively teach grammar rules while incorporating spoken drills and conversational practice in Spanish.
Complete Process from Beginning to Advanced: I have assisted students in learning Spanish from the ground up to an advanced level, often forming lasting personal relationships as I help them maintain and sharpen their language skills, including for professional purposes. Over time, I refine my students\' diction and aid their transition into Spanish-speaking countries, jobs requiring Spanish, or joining a Spanish-speaking family.
