Ph.D.: Literary Editor, Writer & Desktop Publisher
About This Service
CREATIVE AND ACADEMIC EDITOR FOR WRITERS, SCHOLARS, AND STORYTELLERS, Ph.D.
Contact me at: WRITINGGG@GMAIL.COM
My services encompass a wide range of writing projects, including novels, nonfiction books, memoirs, screenplays, stage plays, radio plays, television scripts and concepts, dramatic coaching, short stories, children’s stories, speeches, presentations, dissertations, articles, essays, criticism, reviews, academic papers, grant applications, blogs, newsletters, poetry, and even the occasional love letter.
My professional experience includes editing over one hundred books for both academic and commercial publishers, such as University of California Press, Stanford University Press, Cornell University Press, Oxford University Press, HarperCollins Publishers, Warner Books, Sierra Club Books, University of California Art Museum, Lawrence Hall of Science, Wadsworth Publishing Company, and Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Films. I have also edited more than one hundred doctoral dissertations and master’s theses, in addition to editing, rewriting, or ghostwriting countless creative projects for individual clients.
My Editorial Process
As an editor, I typically read your writing aloud to you, either in person or online. This collaborative approach allows you to respond immediately to my questions and suggestions, enabling us to make improvements in real time. I also perform copyediting during these sessions, addressing grammar, spelling, punctuation, and other technical details. I generally prefer not to read manuscripts in advance, choosing instead to share my reactions spontaneously. While I can edit material in the traditional manner without the author present, I favor working directly with clients whenever possible, as a live dialogue allows for immediate clarification. However, if you strongly prefer the traditional method, I recommend an initial hands-on session to establish clear guidelines before I proceed independently.
My Writing and Co-Writing Process
As a writer or co-writer, I adapt my methods to suit your needs. One effective approach involves conducting recorded interviews with you, which are then transcribed to create a first draft. A half-hour conversation typically yields approximately twenty double-spaced pages of raw text. While you could record yourself, most people find it more productive to converse with someone who can ask insightful questions that may lead the discussion in new and interesting directions. Alternative methods include dictating to me as I write, collaboratively rewriting a rough draft you provide, or developing an outline together for you to expand upon. We can combine these approaches or devise new ones as needed.
Desktop Publishing and Beyond
As a desktop publisher, I prepare page layouts for book projects I have edited or helped to write. Following this, you can proceed to print-on-demand services or e-book conversion. I can also assist you in submitting your work to literary agents, publishers, or, for screenplays and stage plays, to producers.
A recent personal achievement: My author-approved stage adaptation of \"The Clown,\" a novel by Heinrich Böll, the 1972 Nobel Prize winner in Literature, is scheduled for publication and production in London in the coming year.
