The Opportunity

We are in search of a seasonal Tax Preparer capable of managing and preparing tax returns through to final filing. The ideal professional will be detail-oriented, have a robust knowledge of current federal and state tax regulations, and be skilled at communicating complex matters clearly to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tax Preparation: Prepare and examine a range of federal and state income tax returns for individuals (Form 1040) and business entities (Forms 1120, 1120-S, 1065, and 990). Familiarity with fiduciary and trust returns (Form 1041) is beneficial.
  • Collect and evaluate financial information using accounting software like QuickBooks, Sage, or other applicable tools to ensure thorough tax filings.
  • Review financial documents such as income statements, balance sheets, and bank statements to pinpoint relevant tax details.
  • Help clients comprehend their tax responsibilities by explaining intricate financial concepts in a clear and professional manner.
  • Compliance and Research: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new tax laws, code revisions, and reporting mandates. Perform necessary tax research.
  • Client Service: Communicate directly with clients to obtain tax documents, collect required paperwork, resolve outstanding matters, and respond to tax notices and penalty abatement requests from entities like the IRS and state agencies.
  • Planning and Consulting: Recognize opportunities for client tax savings and strategic planning.

Qualifications and Skills

Required

  • Experience: A minimum of three to five years of recent, practical experience preparing individual and business tax returns within a public accounting environment.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced skill with the Lacerte professional tax preparation software and experience using QuickBooks.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication abilities; capacity to explain technical tax issues clearly to those without a tax background.

Preferred

  • Professional certification such as EA, CPA, or equivalent is advantageous.
