Summer Studio is a furniture workshop dedicated to design, specializing in high-end, handcrafted wood furniture and lighting. Each item is produced in limited quantities at our Los Angeles facility, merging classic joinery techniques, contemporary machinery, and a profound appreciation for genuine materials.
We are seeking an accomplished woodworker to become part of our team. This role involves constructing production furniture, prototypes, and custom orders while working closely with the head designer.
Responsibilities
- Process, glue, and prepare hardwood parts using species such as white oak, walnut, and ash.
- Perform accurate joinery through a combination of hand tools, machinery, and CNC-supported methods.
- Assemble, sand, and apply finish to pieces, achieving a polished, exhibition-quality result.
- Assist in prototyping and design refinement, including troubleshooting, jig creation, and process enhancement.
- Keep the workshop tidy, orderly, and safe.
- Help with packaging and shipping when necessary.
Requirements
- Background in fine woodworking or furniture production, demonstrated through professional experience or a comparable portfolio.
- Skill in interpreting technical drawings, measurements, and shop plans.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic studio setting.
- Excellent communication skills and a cooperative attitude.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Mandatory)
- Familiarity with 3-axis CNC operation.
- Experience with oil-based finishes, solid wood shaping, bent lamination, or leathercraft.
- Capacity to suggest improvements for process efficiency and product development.
