The hourly wage for this position ranges from $25.60 to $28.82. Compensation is based on relevant experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the Pharmacy Technician will provide support within the pharmacy operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform prescription data entry, package medications (including pouring, counting, and filling), and file completed orders in an organized manner, all in strict adherence to Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Manage inventory by placing orders, maintaining adequate stock levels, receiving, storing, and handling disposition. Resolve any discrepancies in coordination with the pharmacist.
  • Handle cash transactions, perform basic point-of-sale operations, and execute opening and closing procedures.
  • Demonstrate and provide an exceptional customer service experience for patients. Conduct nonclinical patient outreach and ensure proper documentation when necessary. Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with clinic staff across all locations.
  • Assist the pharmacist in coordinating clinical services, which may include vaccinations, screening questionnaires, and medical device setup.
  • Process medication deliveries and shipments. Experience with major couriers such as FedEx, UPS, or DoorDash is highly preferred.
  • Help maintain the pharmacy in a clean, orderly, and fully functional condition, ensuring both external and internal appearances are professional.
  • Undertake special projects as assigned by the pharmacist.

Additional duties may be assigned based on business needs.

REQUIREMENTS

Training and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent, plus six months of experience working as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technician (ExCPT) certification is mandatory.

Knowledge of:

  • Basic pharmaceutical calculations, such as determining sufficient quantity and days supply.
  • Adequate computer skills.
  • Insurance plans and claims resolution processes. Ability to initiate prior authorizations.

Ability to:

  • Maintain workflow, prioritizing efficiency while ensuring patient safety at all times.
  • Remain current with job training and significant healthcare updates.
  • Multitask and move between different workstations to address patient needs.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including promptly notifying the pharmacist of any errors.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting, and moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Packaging delivery orders of various sizes and with different temperature requirements.
  • Daily use of a personal computer for entering, viewing, and revising text and graphics both on-screen and on paper.
  • Interaction with patients and clinics that provide clinical HIV and STI services.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Potential for work-related travel. Use of a personal vehicle requires a valid California driver’s license and proof of automobile liability insurance.
  • COVID-19 vaccination and booster are required, subject to approved medical or religious exemptions.
