Paid Temporary Dog Fostering Opportunity for Dog Lovers (Santa Monica)

About This Job

Are you passionate about dogs and seeking some canine companionship during the holiday period? Could you offer a large dog a temporary home for several weeks or more?

Ace of Hearts is a non-profit dog rescue organization located in Los Angeles dedicated to saving dogs from shelters and offering them a renewed opportunity for life.

We are seeking compassionate Foster caregivers to offer temporary housing for rescued dogs while we search for their permanent homes. As our rescues come from shelters, some dogs may have experienced trauma, requiring individuals who can provide them with a sense of security, comfort, and confidence. Witnessing shy and fearful dogs gradually place their trust in you is an immensely rewarding experience. Similarly, receiving unconditional affection from confident dogs is equally gratifying. Your role involves providing loving care and sharing updates on their personalities, while we supply all necessary items including a bed, food, treats, toys, supplies, and veterinary care.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR FOSTERS WITH PRIOR DOG EXPERIENCE WHO ARE AT EASE WITH LARGE BREEDS.

We have a PARTICULAR NEED for foster assistance during the holiday season. If you have availability over any of the upcoming winter holidays, such as Christmas or New Year\'s, and can foster a dog for one to two weeks, PLEASE CONTACT US.

Here are some of our dogs currently in MOST URGENT need of new foster placements:

  • Raffi - A gentle two-year-old lab and boxer mix who adores people and other dogs. He enjoys playtime and aims to be everyone\'s companion. Raffi must be placed in a home without cats. He interacts well with other dogs of all sizes and delights in having a canine friend. Raffi has no health issues and is searching for a caring foster home until his permanent family is found.
  • Logan - A three-year-old border collie and lab mix. He is currently awaiting leg surgery and therefore has limited exercise capacity.
  • Sabrina - A sweet six-year-old mastiff mix. Sabrina can be reserved around new people and may issue a warning growl or snap if approached before she is comfortable. However, once trust is established, she becomes profoundly affectionate and deeply bonded to her caregivers. She coexists peacefully with calm dogs and will flourish in a tranquil home environment where she feels secure and loved. If you possess a compassionate nature and are prepared to offer a supportive and nurturing home for a special dog like Sabrina, you will gain a devoted and loving companion.

Participating in our foster program is an exceptionally fulfilling endeavor. You contribute to rehabilitating dogs who were facing euthanasia at the shelter, granting them a second chance at adoption. Our fosters are genuine heroes.

Requirements for Foster Applicants:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older. If under 21, parental approval is required.
  • Must commit to fostering until the dog is adopted, or for a minimum of two to four weeks if a longer commitment is not possible. (NOTE: If you cannot commit to several weeks but can offer short-term emergency fostering for a few days, please still reach out. We value fosters who can assist in temporary situations.)
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to bring the dog to our bi-weekly adoption event in West Hollywood every other Saturday, as well as to a designated veterinarian for wellness checks, spay/neuter procedures, and other necessary appointments.
  • Must be comfortable with large breeds. We primarily rescue bully breeds, and most of our dogs weigh between 50 and 90 pounds. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND IF YOU CAN ONLY FOSTER SMALL DOGS.
  • Must have NO children under the age of 10, cats, or small dogs in the household. (PLEASE do not inquire if you have children or cats. Other LARGE dogs are acceptable. PLEASE do not inquire if you have small dogs.)
  • Must be able to begin fostering immediately.
  • Must have already discussed and obtained approval from all relevant parties such as landlords, property managers, or spouses. Please do not respond without these approvals.

If you have any questions, please get in touch. Help us save lives.

Please provide your phone number and personal email address so we can contact you. WE WILL NOT RESPOND IF YOUR PHONE NUMBER AND EMAIL ARE NOT INCLUDED.

Thank you for your time and compassion. With the support of our fosters, we can rescue more dogs and help each of these sweet animals secure a second chance at a wonderful life.
