POSITION SUMMARY
The Grameen Promotoras initiative is dedicated to delivering innovative and holistic healthcare and educational services to women in underserved communities. By integrating high-quality primary care, wellness programs, and instruction in health and finance, the program enables these women to achieve better health and reach their full potential as entrepreneurs, parents, and active community participants. Grameen Promotoras operates under Grameen America Inc. (GAI), a microfinance organization established by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, which aids low-income individuals in rising out of poverty through access to financial tools.
This role calls for a Spanish-speaking professional to work in Los Angeles, based in an office in Boyle Heights, with women enrolled in the Grameen America microfinance program. The Community Health Worker / Educator will engage closely with participants, offering guidance on health, financial literacy, and other topics related to personal finance and small business operations, in addition to providing social support. The individual will also collaborate with local health resources and social service agencies to enhance the overall wellness of the women involved. This position functions as part of a team alongside other Community Health Workers and Educators.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Facilitate group sessions for 20-30 women, conducting activities that provide social support and education on various subjects in multiple settings.
- Carry out a spectrum of interventions, including counseling, coaching, referral, and advocacy, to help participants access necessary services and resources.
- Instruct members on financial and business subjects, such as savings accounts and credit scores, with assistance from other members of the Grameen America team.
- Cultivate positive and supportive relationships with participants from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, both in individual and group contexts.
- Assist participants in formulating health management strategies, personal goals, and financial objectives.
- Guide participants in managing chronic health conditions and practicing effective self-care.
- Oversee scheduling and coordination for group meetings and individual counseling sessions.
- Record participant interactions, maintain accurate files, and document all related activities.
- Develop and sustain connections with social service providers, medical facilities, and other community-based organizations to streamline referral procedures.
- Work to diminish cultural and socioeconomic obstacles that may exist between clients and institutions.
- Perform additional administrative tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Capacity to adapt and remain flexible in daily tasks.
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
- Prior experience in health services, social services, or financial education is advantageous.
- Ability to maintain a flexible daily schedule, which may include early start times.
