The hourly compensation for this role ranges from $45.15 to $60.09. The offered salary will align with the candidate\'s experience.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant will oversee the month-end financial closing procedure and guarantee the precise and prompt recording of all monetary transactions following Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This role will be instrumental in mentoring other finance personnel on accounting standards, internal control frameworks, and associated topics. The Senior Accountant will generate financial statements and collaborate with internal and external parties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Guides the month-end closing process under the Accounting Manager\'s supervision, ensuring all financial activities are captured accurately and on schedule.
- Records cash deposits according to payment type, collaborating closely with grants management, development, billing, and pharmacy departments to gather and comprehend deposit specifics.
- Guarantees fixed assets are recorded in line with organizational capitalization policies and maintains complete fixed asset documentation.
- Oversees depreciation schedules to ensure accurate and timely calculation of depreciation.
- Manages the lease schedule to ensure all lease activities are accounted for in compliance with ASC 842.
- Maintains and revises cost allocation plans.
- Ensures all shared costs are appropriately allocated each month.
- Collaborates with other finance team members to confirm all revenues and expenses are recorded or accrued in the correct period before month-end close.
- Prepares and records monthly entries for patient service revenue, including provisions for bad debt and contractual adjustments.
- Reconciles patient revenue payments against accounts receivable balances.
- Prepares and records monthly pharmacy revenue and expense entries, inclusive of cost of goods sold.
- Reconciles all balance sheet accounts monthly, verifying accuracy and resolving discrepancies prior to month-end close.
- Takes part in external audits and prepares required schedules or supporting documents.
- Works with the Accounting Manager and external auditors to finalize the annual IRS Form 990.
- Prepares monthly budget versus actual reports for internal stakeholders by grant, program, department, location, etc.
- Collaborates closely with the Accounting Manager, Director of Finance, and Chief Financial Officer to develop the organization\'s annual operating budget, including its entry into the accounting system.
- Monitors contract pharmacy receivables and works with the pharmacy team to ensure timely collection.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including Medi-Cal reconciliation reports, Medicare cost reports, HCAI utilization reports, and UDS reports.
- Delivers analytical support to internal management teams, including enhancing internal management reporting tools.
- Assists department leaders in creating internal budgets, projections, and forecasts.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED AS NEEDED TO SUPPORT BUSINESS OPERATIONS.
REQUIREMENTS:
Training and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited institution is mandatory.
- A Master’s degree in accounting or finance or a CPA certification is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of accounting experience, ideally within a healthcare environment, Federally Qualified Health Center, or non-profit organization, is required.
- Experience with MIP Fund Accounting software is desirable.
- Experience with electronic medical records systems is desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel are required.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is mainly an office-based role that involves only occasional bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting or moving office supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. Daily tasks involve using a personal computer, including entering, viewing, and modifying text and graphics on the computer screen and on paper.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must hold a valid California driver’s license; provide proof of automobile liability insurance; and have access to a personal vehicle for work-related travel. COVID-19 vaccination and booster are required, subject to approved medical or religious exemptions.
