Job Description: Workers\' Compensation Case Manager (Applicant-Side)

Position available with Matevosyan & Nikoghosyan, LLP.

Location

Granada Hills, California. This is an in-office position only.

Salary and Hours

The salary range is $25 to $35 per hour, depending on experience. This is a full-time role, with hours from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

We are seeking an experienced, skilled, efficient, and dependable Legal Assistant or Case Manager to provide direct support for one attorney\'s caseload. This is a long-term, in-office position ideal for someone seeking stability, a collaborative team, and a professional, organized workplace.

Position Overview: Legal Assistant/Case Manager

We are looking for a candidate who meets the following criteria:

  • Possesses a minimum of one year of experience in workers\' compensation, with a strong preference for applicant-side experience. Two to seven years of work comp experience is also highly preferred.
  • Spanish language skills are a plus but not mandatory.
  • Is exceptionally organized and attentive to detail.
  • Can thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Is prepared to support the attorney effectively from the start.
  • Is confident in communicating with clients, insurance adjusters, and defense attorneys.
  • Has an understanding of medical-legal timelines, workers\' compensation issues, and case strategy.
  • Can work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Is proactive in moving cases forward.

Please note: This is not an entry-level position. It requires existing knowledge of workers\' compensation law and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

You will serve as the primary support for one attorney. Key responsibilities include:

Attorney Email and Communication

  • Monitor and organize the attorney\'s email inbox.
  • Identify and flag urgent matters.
  • Respond to routine correspondence.

Client Communication

  • Answer client phone calls and provide case status updates.
  • Schedule calls between clients and the attorney as needed.
  • Address and manage escalated client concerns professionally.

Scheduling and Calendaring

  • Schedule depositions.
  • Confirm deposition appointments with all involved parties.
  • Manage the attorney\'s calendar, including adding reminders and deadlines.

Drafting and Legal Writing

  • Draft letters to defense counsel, adjusters, clients, and medical providers.
  • Draft Declarations of Readiness (DORs), objections, and petitions from templates.
  • Prepare settlement documents and discovery-related correspondence.

Case Management

  • Review Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) and Agreed Medical Evaluator (AME) reports to identify necessary actions.
  • Update case notes and summaries, maintaining organization within our case management system, MerusCase.
  • Communicate with defense counsel regarding scheduling and other case matters.
  • Prepare case summaries when required.
  • Coordinate with the in-office PQME coordinator and other legal assistants.

Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)

  • Minimum of one year of workers\' compensation experience.
  • Experience supporting one to two workers\' compensation attorneys and managing a caseload.
  • Working knowledge of depositions, DORs, objections, discovery, medical-legal deadlines, Requests for Admission (RFAs), and the panel QME process.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong telephone etiquette and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
  • Reliable and professional demeanor.

Preferred Experience

The following experience is not required but would be a significant advantage:

  • Two to seven years of applicant-side workers\' compensation experience.
  • Experience drafting petitions.
  • Familiarity with the MerusCase software platform.
  • Experience managing high-volume caseloads (300+ files).
  • Knowledge of the Electronic Adjudication Management System (EAMS) for filing.
